AWAKE Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation is currently one of the most sought-after cosmetic surgical procedures in the United States.  With this procedure, women can achieve a larger, more pleasing breast size.  This is accomplished by the placement of either a saline or silicone filled implant, the size of which is pre-determined by the woman after a thorough evaluation and conversation with her cosmetic surgeon.

The chosen implant may be placed either above or below the muscles of the chest wall.  There are advantages and disadvantages to each of these locations, and these are reviewed at the time of the consult visit.

The AWAKE Breast Augmentation procedure is made possible by the specific placement of a mixture of saline, lidocaine, epinephrine and bicarbonate.  This solution allows for maximum pain management and patient comfort, while minimizing the risks of infection and blood loss.  We believe the advantages of this approach do not end there.  With the patient awake and aware, we are able to communicate with each other throughout the procedure; in fact, we ask the patient’s opinion regarding final sizing and symmetry of the implants prior to the completion of the procedure!  Most importantly, the risks of general anesthesia (lung injury, blood clots and difficulty waking-up) are significantly diminished, if not eliminated altogether.
