Sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to eliminate varicose veins and spider veins . Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution, sodium tetradecyl sulfate, directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.
Prior to sclerotherapy you will have an initial consultation with the physician who will decide if you are a good candidate for the procedure. You are not eligible if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. You can undergo the procedure if you are taking birth control. If you have had a history of blood clots in the past, you should discuss your overall health with your physician and determination of eligibility will be on an individual basis. You should also avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen, as well as other anti-inflammatories for 48 to 72 hours prior to sclerotherapy. Be sure to let you doctor know all the medications you are currently taking, as some medications may cause complications.
During this procedure, the affected leg is elevated, and the sclerosant is injected into the varicose vein. The procedure is done in the office in 15 minute sessions, typically 2 to 3 sessions required. The number of veins injected in each session depends on the size and location of the veins and the medical condition of the patient. Mild discomfort may occur when the vein is injected, and a cramping sensation may be felt for several minutes when larger veins are injected.
Side effects of sclerotherapy may include swelling and redness around the injection site for several days. Sometime, mild bruising may occur. Larger veins may become lumpy for several months before resolving. Small brown lines or spots may become visible at the injection sight due to a form of iron being released from the blood. In most cases, these spots will disappear in 3 to 6 months, but in 5% of cases, these spots can be permanent. Mild itching can occur several days after treatment while healing begins. In rare cases, an allergic reaction can occur to the sclerosing agent. Call your doctor if persisitant itching and swelling occur.
After sclerotherapy you will be encouraged to walk immediately after the treatment and you may resume your regular activities. You will be fitted and asked to wear compression hosery for several weeks post treatment to improve swelling and compress treated vessels. For 48 hours after treatment avoid taking aspirin and ibuprofen. Do not apply hot compresses to injection sights, and take showers, but not baths. Also avoid direct exposure to sunlight (including tanning beds).
Sclerotherapy is a well-proven procedure and has been in use since the 1930s.
VascuTouch
The vascutouch provides an inexpensive means to easily remove vascular lesions, broken capillaries, cherry angiomas, spider veins and skin tags from the face and body. This quick and simple treatment will not cause hyperpigmentation or scarring. It uses a fine tipped, sterile probe to emit very low levels of radio frequency (RF) and DC current into the vessel. The blood in the tiny vessel is clotted or coagulated and stops flowing. There is no pressure or penetration of the skin during treatment, as the probe only touches the top of the area to be treated. One to three 15-20 minute treatment sessions will remove most blemishes. With proper "post" treatment care, the vessel is naturally absorbed into the surrounding tissue. Typically within three to four weeks the vessel or blemish will disappear.
Skin tags, no matter where they are on the body, and cherry angiomas can be treated in minutes, and typically heal within a few days.
Most conditions can be successfully treated and permanently removed in 1 to 3 treatments. There are not negative side effects to this treatment, as with other laser treatments, like scarring, pain, bruising and hyperpigmentation. Some temporary scabbing may occur after treatment, but this is normal and a sign of an effectlive treatment process.
Aesthera PPX Therapy
Aesthera PPX therapy is an amazing therapy that can be used to treat many skin problems such as small varicose veins, broken capillaries, age spots, acne, and sun damaged skin. Aesthera PPX utilizes photopneumatic energy and broadband light to target skin conditions and produce even skin pigmentation and complexion.
During the treatment process, target areas of skin are "sucked up" into the device, which allows the areas of pigmentation to be closer to the surface of the skin. Thus, it is easier for the light energy to pass through the skin to the targeted area, requiring less energy and achieving greater effecacy in the treatment process.
The treatment, itself, is quick and pain free. An entire face can be treated in less than 20 minutes. Many patients say it feels as if the face is getting a warm massage, and often find the treatment relaxing. The cost of the treatment will vary, depending on the size of the treatment area, and whether you are targetting veins, acne, age spots, or sun damaged skin. Generally 5 sessions are necessary to treat a given area. Aesthera PPX therapy can also be used in conjunction with sclerotherapy to help achieve a final even skin tone in the legs.
